Why We Do What We Do.
The pleasure of conversation is a delight exclusive to human beings. Yet, sadly, our discussion often centers on the mundane; this is particularly evident during date night. In contrast, the history of thought and literature is brimming with pleasant and deep conversations that are open to all which, when paired with date night, enfuses life into an otherwise mundane conversation.
Our purpose in Prose and Repose is to foster meaningful and substantial conversations, and through conversation, till the ground of deepened relationships for the sake of stronger families and communities. The way - the vium - through which we do this is particular: we introduce (or reintroduce) our subscribers to the great conversation, from its great authors of history past.
What that looks like practically is an aesthetically designed box that contains a quality snack, reading, and discussion promps. With an eye toward excellence, this box is an invitation to a new journey of a greater conversation, one with great thinkers of ages past and with those surrounding your table.
We invite you to enter into the great conversation with us.
How It All Began.
Prose and Repose was born out of a bad date. Patrick and I, Alexa, (two of the co-founders) sat on our back porch tired and stressed out attempting to “connect” after a busy week. We had a lot in common, chiefly that we both loved to read most things connected to literature, history, rhetoric, logic, theology, and psychology. Though we were interested in the same things, we hadn’t read the same thing in a while; in fact, we were both so busy we didn’t have anything meaningful to bring to the conversation. So there we sat in silence. To fill the silence, I started to bring up things we did have in common - life problems. A short conversation later, we were both feeling more discouraged and frustrated than we had before we started our date.
Recognizing what had happened, we began to discuss what we would need to have a great and meaningful date. Conversation is essential for a connection with your spouse, so if we could get that right we’d be set for a good date, and we could have a great conversation if we had something deep to read and discuss together. We also love to snack while we chat, so snacks were a must. Then we thought it would be great to have all this packaged together in a subscription box we could order every month, so we could relax and focus on each other rather than having to prepare it all. We knew if this would serve us then this was a way to serve others who love to read and have deep conversations with their spouses as well. This date night subscription box idea was an avenue for date night conversation to actually mean something and not just be small talk or about life problems. And thus, the idea for Prose and Repose was born.

Who We Are: the Founders.
Patrick and Alexa live in South Texas, with their baby boy, Ryker, and two cats. Patrick is in his fourth year teaching at a Classical Christian School. He got his Bachelors in Theology from Reformation Bible College, his Master’s in Philosophy from Holy Apostles, and is currently working on a PhD in Philosophical Theology. On weekends you’ll catch him working out or reading. Alexa stays home with Ryker and devotes every nap time to Prose and Repose as well as studying what she loves - the humanities, especially literature. Before staying home, she taught American History and high school literature in Classical Christian education for three years. She has an A.A in the Liberal Arts and is working on her Masters in Classical Protestant Literature. Besides snuggling her baby, she loves to go to the beach, read, and hang out with friends.
Bobby and Tara are old college friends with Patrick and Alexa. Tara's experience is on the business side of the house and includes publishing. Bobby has his Bachelors in Theology and a Masters in Philosophy from the University of Buckingham in the U.K..
